I have several pairs of Clarks shoes that I've had for years and loved for their comfort. This shoe is part of its "Un-structured" line and has the many of the same features and great quality, and then some.* true to size in both length and width
* exceptionally soft leather inside and out, including the tongue of the shoe
* smooth seams throughout
* high quality black laces
* holes throughout the lining, as well as a few on the top, increase breathability
* fine same-color stitching at seams and for decoration
* padded achilles collar to buffer feet and prevent slippage - it takes some getting used to
* the sole is hand stitched to the rest of the shoe
* very flexible sole that moves naturally with the foot
* as is may not work for wide or swollen feet (insole can be changed for a thinner one in that case to increase inner shoe volume)
* the man-made sole is slip resistant and designed to pull liquid away from the shoe
The Ortholite insole alone deserves a review -
* it provides adequate arch support
* it is removable, allowing for orthotics
* the bottom of the shoe underneath is made of a cushioned canvas like material that shields the insole from the sole (some manufacturers skip this step or use a hard platform)
* the top layer of the insole is made of soft leather
* it is anti-fungal and antibacterial
* there are two layers of shock absorbing foam on the foot bed and a triple layer on the heel
* holes penetrate the insole as well - there are 48 in the heel area, 80 in the midsole and toe area, making it far more breathable that similar-looking shoes.
The shoe is made in China but nothing about it is cheap. It is an exceptionally well-crafted, comfortable shoe built for heavy-duty use and meant to last many years. They are suitable not just for work but also for day-to-night wear, travel and even laid-back outdoor treks. Granted, it will not replace your hiking shoes, doesn't go well with skirts or shorts, but they can be used for both casual and dressy outings and might even work at the gym.
